The four-star hotel Euterpė is unique for the story behind its name.
The history of the hotel dates back to 2006, when, during archaeological research in Klaipėda’s historic Friedrich suburb, a Renaissance stove tile was discovered featuring a depiction of Euterpe — the muse of music from Greek mythology.
It is believed that local craftsmen, inspired by a renowned engraving of Euterpe by the Dutch artist Crispijn de Passe the Elder (1565–1637), recreated the image on stove tiles.
Thus, at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, the motif of Euterpe playing music found its way into the homes of well-to-do Friedrich residents — and centuries later, experienced a second renaissance. Today, it graces the lobby of the Euterpė Hotel.
